Two Malayali women were killed in California by a friend.
The victims were identified as Anjana (35), from Mudikkode near Mannuthy in Thrissur, and Ann Mary Mathew (40), a native of Kesavadasapuram in Thiruvananthapuram. The driver, a 32-year-old Milpitas resident, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Anjana was allegedly knocked down and killed by a car, according to information received by her relatives. Police said the investigation remains active and the circumstances leading up to the collision are still being determined. Vijayan Vilangannur, Anjana’s father-in-law, said Vijeesh was devastated by the incident and was unable to speak to his family. Thrissur collector Sikha Surendran said she had asked Anjana’s family to submit details of the incident so they could be forwarded to the NORKA secretary.
Their families alleged that the two women were killed by their friend, Anila, who has reportedly been taken into custody by police. The investigation is ongoing. However, the circumstances surrounding Anjana’s death are different. The matter would then be taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance in bringing Anjana’s body back to Keralam.
She had allegedly been involved in a dispute with the suspect over a job-related matter, according to information received by Ann Mary’s family. Jerry Sam Joseph, a neighbour and family friend, said Ann Mary’s relatives had been informed about the dispute. He alleged that the suspect entered Ann Mary’s house and stabbed her.
