Kochi : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP ) is set to win all 12 seats in the students’ union election at Govt Sanskrit College, Tripunithura, after no candidates from other student outfits contested the polls. The college is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, (MGU) Kottayam where students’ union elections are scheduled to be held on Sept 29. However, with the nomination process at the college concluding on Sept 18 without candidates from other organisations, ABVP has claimed victory in all 12 posts. That this year’s win came unopposed, in all 12 seats, shows the depth of that trust has only grown stronger since 2025,” said Yadhu Krishnan, ABVP Kerala state secretary. Meanwhile, SFI Ernakulam district secretary Asish S Anand attributed the situation to a decline in student enrolment at the college following the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the institution currently has fewer than 100 students and was facing the prospect of closure. “SFI had the campus union at the college for 36 years. But after 2020, enrolment at the college declined.
However, the trend began to shift last year when ABVP won the union defeating SFI candidates.
ABVP used this situation to build a support base and claim that it has a students’ union at a campus in Kerala,” Anand said. The college was considered a stronghold of the left-leaning SFI, which had controlled the campus union for more than three decades. The official results are yet to be declared. “This consecutive victory at Govt Sanskrit College Tripunithura is not a one-off result, it is proof that students have decisively moved away from four decades of SFI’s politics and have reposed their faith in ABVP’s vision of nationalism, discipline and constructive student work.
