Kochi : The high court has directed Sree Sankara College, Kalady, to include two first-year students in the final list of valid nominations for the post of University Union Councillor, allowing them to contest the election scheduled for Sept 29, 2026.
The college authorities sought time to file a counter affidavit, and the case was posted to Oct 23, 2026. They had submitted admit cards, but their names were missing; however, the principal had signed over their photographs and their admission numbers matched the nominal rolls. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas issued the order in a petition filed by Ananthu S and Shanu Ravi T. Their nominations were rejected after they failed to produce identity cards, which the college had not issued to first-year students. The court noted there was no dispute that the petitioners are students of the college. Calling the rejection technical and prima facie incorrect, it directed respondents to accept their nominations as valid. The petitioners had moved the court after the returning officer rejected their papers.
