TIRUPUR: A 35-year-old construction worker allegedly murdered his wife by dropping a grinding stone on her head while she was asleep in the early hours of Sunday, over suspicions regarding her fidelity. Police arrested the suspect, identified as Christopher.
Police said Christopher, and his wife Pavila, natives of Dindigul district, had been married for eight years and were residing at Thirukumaran Nagar in Vanjipalayam near Tirupur. Christopher had been harbouring suspicions about his wife’s character, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple, according to an officer from the Veerapandi police station. “On Saturday night, an argument broke out between them and escalated into a heated exchange,” the officer said.
The couple have a son and a daughter. Pavila was also a construction worker. “While Pavila was asleep at their residence, Christopher dropped a grinding stone on her head. She sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot,” the officer added. On receiving information, police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Police registered a case. Further investigations are under way.
