TWO ARRESTED FOR HURLING PETROL BOMB AT PASUMPON THEVAR MEMORIAL IN TIRUNELVELI
Based on the footage, police identified the suspects as Akash Ramadurai, 22, and Santhanakumar, 21, of Urudaiyarpuram; both belonging to the devendra kula vellalar community and being history-sheeters. A dispute arose over 4.5 cents of government-owned land near temples belonging to the devendra kula vellalar (DKV) and thevar communities, according to police. On August 23, members of the Kaliamman temple associated with the DKV community attempted to erect a shed with a 5×5-foot room on the disputed site.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Tirunelveli : Two men were arrested for hurling a petrol bomb near a land adjacent to the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar memorial in Urudaiyarpuram in Thachanallur during the late hours of Thursday. The incident caused alarm among residents. Preliminary inquiry by police found that the attack was allegedly linked to a dispute in the village over temple-related issues. They examined CCTV footage from the area and found that two intoxicated men were creating a disturbance before throwing the petrol bomb. Members of the thevar community objected to the construction, following which the Thachanallur police intervened and stopped the work.
The duo was arrested on Friday morning.
