This march, carrying the slogan ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’, will begin at 3 pm. Hyderabad: BJP is gearing up for a Maha Padayatra in Hyderabad on Monday, with Union home minister Amit Shah set to participate in the three-hour march from Babu Jagjivan Ram statue opposite Nizam College to Moazzam Jahi Market via Abids.
He said the process was not initiated by BJP and had been undertaken several times since 1952. Apart from Shah, Union coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy and Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar will participate in the programme. BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao, party MPs, MLAs, MLCs, party workers and members of the public are also expected to join the march. The padayatra comes amid an intensifying political confrontation between BJP and Congress over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. BJP leaders have accused Congress of spreading misinformation about the exercise and questioning constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and Supreme Court. BJP leaders are seeking to mobilise people beyond party cadres for Monday’s march, projecting it as an effort to defend democratic institutions and counter what they describe as Congress’s campaign against electoral reforms.
At a media conference on Sunday, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender defended SIR, saying the exercise was intended to remove names of deceased voters, people who had migrated and duplicate entries.
