Congress demands proof on BJP’s ‘infiltrator’ claims

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Hyderabad District Congress Committee president Syed Khalid Saifullah on Saturday questioned Union home minister Amit Shah ’s claim that three crore infiltrators had been identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, demanding that he produce evidence or publicly withdraw the allegation.

“How did the home minister suddenly arrive at the precise figure of three crore? Was a nationwide verification conducted? Which govt agency identified these people? Where is the evidence? Saifullah questioned. He emphasised that Congress supports secure borders, lawful action against illegal immigration and accurate electoral rolls, but strongly opposes branding legitimate Indian citizens as foreigners without evidence. “Amit Shah is not an ordinary political spokesperson. He is India’s Union home minister, responsible for internal security. He cannot make claims that three crore people on the voter rolls are infiltrators without producing evidence. If he has evidence, let him publish it. If he does not, he must apologise to the nation and withdraw his statement,” Saifullah demanded.
