Hyderabad: Nearly 60% of cardiac emergency cases (13,508 out of 22,699) attended by EMRI ambulance services network in Telangana in 2025 involved people aged 31 to 60 years.
Furthermore, data showed that on average, there were 1,892 chest pain cases in a month, or 62 a day. Men accounted for 53% of the cases and women 47%. The majority of the cases were reported from urban areas, followed by rural areas with 23% and tribal areas with 6%.
B Sudhakar, head of operations, EMRI, highlighted that the figures also pointed towards the need for preventive cardiology, particularly in urban areas where the highest number of cases was reported.
Lifestyle changes, stress, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diets, smoking, alcohol consumption and conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol may increase the risk among younger adults,” said Dr Syed Imamuddin, cardiologist, Osmania General Hospital (OGH). “Heart-related emergencies are no longer restricted to elderly people. “It shows that heart disease has moved into younger age groups and is no longer a predominantly male illness. With a vast majority of these emergencies occurring in urban areas, it is clear that high-stress lifestyles are contributing to the trend. Immediate medical attention is important during a suspected heart attack, as treatment during the first few hours can significantly influence the outcome,” he added.
Dr Nisarga, chief cardiothoracic surgeon, highlighted that the data is not for tomorrow as it concerns today’s working-age population.
