NH65 a death trap, records 1,661 accidents & 354 deaths in a year

It reported 100 fatalities in 96 fatal accidents, despite recording only 294 accidents overall Sangareddy recorded the highest number of deaths.

Hyderabad: National Highway 65, one of Telangana ’s busiest routes, recorded 1,661 accidents with 354 deaths in 341 fatal accidents across six districts in the state between Jan and Sept 2025, as per the records of Telangana Police. Rachakonda (now Malkajigiri) Police Commissionerate recorded the highest number of accidents, with 580 cases, accounting for more than a third of all accidents reported along the highway during the period, according to the data. The commissionerate, through which 53km of this highway passes, reported 81 fatal accidents, 385 non-fatal accidents and 114 accidents that caused no injuries. As many as 531 people were injured, the highest among the six districts. It recorded 161 cases of rash and negligent driving, higher than the 127 cases linked to over-speeding. The district also had the highest death toll (100) on NH65, despite recording fewer accidents than Rachakonda. Other causes of accidents are wrong-side driving which recorded 65 cases, while drunk driving accounted for 25 cases across the six districts.

Only one accident due to red-light jumping was recorded in Rachakonda. Sangareddy was different.
