Projects such as the Rs 620-crore Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar flyover, the Old City Metro, construction of the new 2,000-bed Osmania General Hospital (OGH), urban Indiramma LIG housing towers, Mir Alam Tank bridge-cum-development and Musi rejuvenation were going to give a fillip to Brand Hyderabad’s image, he said. Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Sameer Waliullah on Friday said chief minister A Revanth Reddy has put the development and welfare of the Old City on the fast track.
During the 1,000 days of the Congress govt, the CM has changed the development narrative for the Old City by treating it as an integral part of Hyderabad’s future growth rather than an isolated pocket requiring special interventions,” claimed Sameer. He said the recently inaugurated 3.2-km Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar four-lane steel flyover, built at a cost of about Rs 620 crore, was a visible example of the govt completing a long-pending project. “All these reflect the scale of the Congress govt’s focus on the development of the historic Old City of Hyderabad, which is actually the original city.
Sameer also highlighted the new 2,000-bed Osmania General Hospital being developed at Goshamahal, while the historic OGH building on the Musi is proposed to be conserved as a heritage structure. The Congress leader said the first 1,000 days had established a new direction for the Old City and the govt’s next task was to ensure the timely completion of ongoing and proposed works.
It will connect lakhs of people in the Old City with employment centres, colleges, hospitals and business districts across Hyderabad,” he said. Housing, he said, was another major component of the govt’s plans. He said providing housing within the city would allow poorer families to remain close to their workplaces, schools and healthcare facilities instead of being shifted to distant locations.
He termed the Old City Metro rail project the most important ongoing connectivity project. “The Metro will do much more than reduce travel time. One lakh Indiramma houses have been proposed for the Hyderabad Core Urban Region, with high-rise housing planned in several constituencies, including Chandrayangutta and Goshamahal.
Work on the MGBS-Chandrayangutta corridor has progressed through property acquisition, road widening and other preparatory measures, while the chief minister has promised to provide metro rail connectivity to the Old City before the next assembly elections.
