Telangana assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar became emotional and broke down in the House after allegations of verbal abuse and derogatory remarks by a BRS MLC

Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar expressed his anger at BRS MLA T Harish Rao, saying “BRS MLCs made objectionable and abusive remarks against my mother, not your mother. ” As soon as the assembly began for the second day on Tuesday, BRS MLAs T Harish Rao and Vemula Prashant Reddy raised the issue of taking action against police officials who manhandled BRS women legislators Sabita Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy. Legislative affairs minister D Sridhar Babu said the state govt had sought a report from the police department on the incident and would take action against those responsible. He also said the BRS could not threaten the govt. “I should become emotional and angry because the BRS members made comment on my mother, not on your mother,” Gaddam Prasad said. The speaker said he had great respect for women and that he had sisters and consider the two MLAs as his sisters. Minister Seethakka said visuals showed some people pushing the women legislators forward as a shield and misbehaving with the women police personnel as well. She said BRS MLAs had removed their t-shirts in front of women police personnel and others, calling the act highly objectionable. The minister also said that although BRS MLCs had made derogatory remarks against the Dalit speaker, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and party members had not expressed regret over their conduct.

Hyderabad: Congress and BRS MLAs engaged in a war of words over the ruckus at the assembly gate on Monday, where some women legislators were alleged manhandled by the police.
