Kanpur: Two junior engineers were suspended, three clerks transferred and FIRs filed against five contractors after a three-member committee headed by the chief development officer (CDO) found several discrepancies in the registration and renewal of firms with the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Some of the 509 firms registered with the civic body had been operating without submitting all the required documents, according to KMC sources.
Jain said the first phase of the inquiry, related to the registration of firms, had been completed and the report submitted to senior officials. The divisional commissioner had constituted the three-member committee after a complaint was submitted to the chief minister alleging irregularities in the registration of firms and the tender process. In the second phase, the committee will examine the reasons behind the acceptance and rejection of tenders. A comprehensive report will subsequently be submitted to the state govt.
