Kanpur: 2 motorcycle riders died, and a woman and 2 children were seriously injured after 2 motorcycles collided head-on near Gauri village on the Miyaganj-Safipur road in the Safipur police station area of Unnao on Monday night. The dead were identified as Chhote Lal (25), a resident of Lalta Kheda village in the Auras police station area, and Basant (35), a resident of Udsah village in the Aseevan police station area.

Police said that as they reached near Gauri village, their motorcycle collided with an oncoming motorcycle driven by Basant. The collision threw both riders onto the road, and the woman and children were also seriously injured.

Chhote Lal rode a motorcycle with his sister-in-law, Malti (35), wife of Purushottam, and his elder brother Ramnaresh’s children, Krishna (7) and Naina (5).

Chhote Lal worked as a labourer in Bengaluru and came home for a few days, according to family members. They were going to attend a birthday programme at his sister Preeti’s house in Jamunihakachh village in the Fattepur Chaurasi area. His younger brother Rahul followed on another motorcycle with other family members. Basant worked in a cement equipment manufacturing factory in Ahmednagar, Mumbai. He returned home the same morning and went to Safipur in the afternoon. He met with the accident while returning.

As Malti, the 2 children and Basant were in a critical condition, they were referred to the district hospital, but Basant died on the way. With the help of passers-by and Rahul, who reached from behind, the injured were taken to CHC Safipur, where doctors declared Chhote Lal dead.
