₹53L property of former madrassa teacher attached: The wider industry impact

Lucknow: Enforcement Directorate ’s (ED) Lucknow office has provisionally attached an immovable property valued at ₹53.46 lakh of former madrassa teacher and preacher Shamsul Huda Khan under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Khan acquired British citizenship on Dec 19, 2013, but he continued to present himself as an Indian citizen. An inquiry conducted by minority welfare and waqf department, UP govt, found that Khan’s service from 2007 to 2017 had not been verified. Despite this, he was granted voluntary retirement in 2017 along with regular pension benefits. The ED said an amount of ₹53.46 lakh was credited to Khan’s bank account from the state exchequer towards salary, pension and GPF.

The ED said its investigation was initiated on the basis of multiple FIRs registered by UP police under various BNS sections. The attached property is located in Khalilabad, Sant Kabir Nagar district and is registered in Khan’s name. Khan continued to use his surrendered Indian passport, PAN, Aadhaar and voter ID to purchase immovable properties in Sant Kabir Nagar. Besides, Khan continued to work as an assistant teacher at a govt-aided madrassa in Mubarakpur, Azamgarh. As the funds had been dissipated, the ED attached the immovable property of equivalent value.
