Muzaffarnagar : A father-son duo from UP’s Muzaffarnagar was arrested on Friday after they allegedly shot dead an 81-year-old temple priest for making an “inaccurate birth prediction”. The accused also tried to frame their neighbour for the murder by planting his photograph at the crime scene, police said.
Police also recovered two country-made .315-bore pistols, live cartridges and a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime. An FIR under BNS section 103 (murder) was registered, police added.
The father-son accused were traced with the help of “technical inputs” and information obtained via the Yaksh App — an AI-powered digital platform launched by UP police in 2025 to improve crime monitoring, according to police. Police initially suspected the involvement of unidentified assailants after the priest was found shot dead in the temple premises. Harendra’s photograph was found at the scene, adding a twist to the investigation. However, the investigation eventually led to the arrest of Hashim and Zeeshan, both from the same village.
