Lucknow: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Lucknow Crime Branch has apprehended a BSc graduate who had been on the run for nearly four years. He was wanted in connection with a property fraud case involving the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). Police confirmed the arrest on Thursday, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraud.
The accused, Sachin Singh, 36, was arrested near an Indian Oil petrol pump in Chhota Bharwara, Gomti Nagar Extension, on Sept 1. Singh was part of a gang that allegedly prepared forged documents of an LDA property and used them to facilitate its illegal sale, according to police. Police said that the accused, after learning about the police investigation, went underground and later shifted to Lalitpur. ADCP Crime Kiran Yadav said the police would continue action against gangs involved in fraud involving LDA properties.

The case concerns a 1,250-sq-ft LDA plot in Viraj Khand, Gomti Nagar, for which forged documents were allegedly prepared in the name of Shivani Rastogi. The property was subsequently sold to Vaishnavi Soni and later resold to Ranjana Devi for Rs 35 lakh. Investigators found that a portion of the sale proceeds was transferred to Singh’s bank account, bringing his suspected role in the alleged conspiracy to light.
