Agra: A special court in Firozabad has sentenced nine people to rigorous imprisonment — ranging from 10 to 20 years — for smuggling nearly 4.4 quintals of cannabis from Odisha to Aligarh .
Police then filed a charge sheet against the nine men in May 2022. The court was informed that all nine, aged between 30 and 40, had previous convictions in drug cases. Yashpal Singh , who had eight previous drug convictions, received the longest sentence of 20 years and was fined Rs 2 lakh. Vivek Singh and Shishupal Kumar were each sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined Rs 2 lakh.
Further investigation, including electronic tracking, led police to seven other members of the network, additional district govt counsel Pradeep Chauhan told TOI. They denied the charges and claimed police had “falsely implicated them”, but the court rejected their defence. Two men inside the truck were arrested at the scene.
Additional district and sessions judge Shyam Babu while announcing the verdict on Friday said that“the drug trade is hollowing out the future like termites.
