Advocate’s plea against drive linked with PIL

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

The bench of Justice Jaspreet Singh and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi fixed Oct 26 for the next hearing. Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Sunday directed that a petition challenging the partial demolition of an advocate’s chamber be tagged with a pending public interest litigation (PIL) dealing with the same issue.

Considering the urgency, a special bench was constituted on the direction of the Chief Justice on Oct 25. The matter was heard at 4.45 pm. Rajesh Kumar Dixit had approached the court seeking directions to the state govt and other concerned authorities to refrain from demolishing his chamber. However, the demolition was stopped after a large number of advocates gathered at the spot and protested against the action, with the situation raising law-and-order concerns.

During the hearing, counsel for the municipal corporation Shailendra Singh Chauhan informed the court that a demolition team had reached the site on Sunday morning as scheduled and had pulled down a portion of the structure.

A special leave petition challenging the HC’s Sept 10, 2026, order in that matter had been filed before the Supreme Court but was dismissed. Another petition concerning the same issue had also been dismissed on Oct 10. The court was also informed that a similar dispute was already pending before it in a PIL.
