Agra: Four people, including two women, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the theft of gold jewellery and cash valued at Rs 12 crore from a showroom in Mathura district, police said.
Unidentified people entered the showroom between 7.30 pm on Sept 13 and 10 am on Monday 14 and fled with jewellery and cash, according to a complaint lodged at Kosi Kalan police station. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 331(4) (house-trespass) and 305 (theft). Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar formed 10 teams to crack the case, while Agra range DIG Shailesh Kumar Pandey visited the spot. The accused were arrested from Kosi Kalan around 12.59 am. The two men were identified as Vishnu alias Pappu Soni, 27, and Mohan Soni, 22, both residents of Kalan. Police recovered 7.12kg of gold and Rs 11 lakh in cash, besides a DVR, locker key, clothes allegedly worn during the theft, a bag, gas cutter, wire cutter and other equipment. We scanned footage from over 100 CCTV cameras and then arrested the accused.

Police said the accused used a gas cutter to break into the showroom’s lockers before fleeing with gold ornaments and cash. Agra zone ADG S K Bhagat said, “Varun Agrawal, owner of Jugal Kishore Jewellers, alerted police about the incident in September. Police did not disclose the identities of the two women. The operation was carried out by teams led by Mathura rural SP Suresh Chand Rawat, STF Agra additional SP Rakesh Yadav, Chhata CO Bhushan Verma and Kosi Kalan inspector Kamlesh Singh, among others. We found that it was an inside job. The accused used a key to open the safe and fled with the gold and cash. One hundred per cent of the stolen items have been recovered.
