Azamgarh police on Sunday rescued a minor girl and arrested a 19-year-old accused in connection

Varanasi: Azamgarh police on Sunday rescued a minor girl and arrested a 19-year-old accused in connection with a case registered at Bardah police station.

Under SSP Anil Kumar’s directions, a police team led by sub-inspector Sheetla Prasad Kushwaha left for Gujarat on Aug 26 to arrest the accused after receiving location inputs. The accused is a resident of Muchra village under the Phulpur police station area in Azamgarh district. He is accused of allegedly luring the minor girl away from her home, misleading her into marriage, and establishing physical relations with her. However, by the time the team reached Gujarat, the accused’s location had shifted to Azamgarh. On spotting the police team, he allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended. The girl was rescued safely.

Police said the accused was traced along with the minor girl near Jivli Tiraha in Azamgarh on Sunday.

A case was registered at Bardah police station on June 12, after the minor girl left her home without informing her family, according to police. During the investigation, charges under the Pocso Act and other relevant serious sections were added.
