Cantt police arrested a suspended UP Police constable accused of fraudulently securing bank

The constable had been absconding since Dec 2024

Varanasi: Cantt police arrested a suspended UP Police constable accused of fraudulently securing bank loans worth around ₹55 lakh using forged documents, police said on Tuesday. The accused, Nitesh Kumar Yadav (30), who carried a reward of ₹25,000, had been absconding since Dec 2024. He was arrested at Delhi airport on Aug 23 upon his arrival from Dubai. SI Upendra Singh said he allegedly misused a govt bank’s Police Salary Package (PSP) scheme by creating forged police identity cards, salary slips, Form-16 documents, bank statements and employee verification reports. Technical surveillance, intelligence inputs and analysis of his travel records later revealed that he had fled to Dubai around May 2025.

Police said he allegedly impersonated residents of Maharajganj district as police personnel, opened bank accounts in their names and secured personal loans from multiple branches of the bank. SI Vivek Singh said that after the case came to light, Nitesh allegedly destroyed his mobile phone, severed contact with associates and went into hiding. SP City Nimish Patil said further investigation was underway to identify other beneficiaries and accomplices involved in the alleged fraud.

Following the transfer of the investigation to Cantt police, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him. Download the TOI App.
