Lucknow: A nine-year-old boy was injured after a leopard attacked him in Rangeelalpurwa village of Naubana gram panchayat under Katarniaghat wildlife division late Sunday night.
The child was rescued after his mother and elder brother confronted the animal and forced it to retreat into the nearby forest.
The incident occurred around 8 pm, shortly after the boy stepped outside his house to drink water from a handpump, according to the family. The leopard released the boy and fled towards the forest. The boy sustained injuries in the attack and was taken to the community health centre Motipur, where his condition was said to be out of danger. Divisional forest officer Apoorv Dixit said teams had been formed and trap cages installed to rescue the leopard. The boy is a student of Class IV. His mother and elder brother were also present nearby when the leopard suddenly emerged from the forest and attacked the child. The animal caught the boy by the neck and began dragging him towards the bushes. The boy’s mother and brother confronted the animal and struggled with it in an attempt to free the child.
