The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Bulandshahr: A 30-year-old Army jawan posted in Kashmir was arrested on suspicion of murdering his 26-year-old wife, whose body was found in a sugarcane field along the Bijraul-Wazidpur road in Baghpat district, police said on Sunday. The woman had been missing since Oct 22 after leaving home to meet her husband to discuss their pending divorce case.

Azad alleged that Alisan and his family had demanded Rs 10 lakh and a car, prompting Rubina to return to her parental home. On Oct 22, she left home without her mobile phone but did not return, following which her family filed a missing-person complaint at Baraut police station. Two days later, her body was found in a sugarcane field about 5km from her home. A postmortem conducted by two doctors established smothering or strangulation as the cause of death. Following the postmortem, Rubina’s relatives refused to proceed with her burial and placed her body on Bijraul road, blocking traffic to demand the arrest of those named in the FIR. Circle officer Anshu Jain and other police personnel reached the spot and persuaded them to clear the road after assuring them of action. Police are also examining how Alisan, who was posted in Kashmir, reached the area around the time of the incident.

Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was registered under BNS section 80 (dowry death) against six people; Alisan, his mother Balis, Suhel, Saina, Amar and Jubedin. Azad accused Alisan and his family members of killing Rubina and dumping her body in the field.
