Bulandshahr: Four-time BJP MLA from Shikarpur in UP’s Bulandshahr district and former minister Anil Sharma (63) died at a private hospital in Delhi on Wednesday while undergoing treatment for cancer .
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over Sharma’s death, saying, “I pray that the departed soul rests in peace and that the bereaved family finds strength to bear this immense loss.” His last rites were performed at his native village, Surajawali, in the Shikarpur area on Thursday.
Sharma, whose political career spanned more than two decades, was first elected village head in 1989 before entering the UP assembly from Khurja on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket in 2002. He retained the seat in the 2007 assembly elections. He later joined the BJP and was elected MLA from Shikarpur in 2017 and again in 2022, making him a four-time MLA. After his victory in 2017, Sharma was inducted into the Yogi govt and served as minister of state for forest and environment from 2017 to 2022.
During his tenure, he emerged as an influential BJP leader in western UP. BJP leaders, party workers and supporters across Bulandshahr condoled his death. UP minister Surendra Diler, Bulandshahr MP Bhola Singh, Rajya Sabha member Surendra Singh Nagar and other senior party leaders attended his last rites.
