Kanpur: A Class 8 student who went missing from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Samho, in Etawah on Tuesday was found at Etawah Railway Station on Thursday after his family spotted him getting off a train from Kanpur while checking CCTV footage at the station’s RPF police station.
Police sent the boy to the Child Welfare Committee for 24-hour counselling.
The boy told his family that two students at the school had accused him of theft and beaten him, according to police. He said he reached Kanpur by train and boarded another train to return to Etawah, but the train went to Fatehgarh. Frightened, he climbed a tree, jumped over the school wall and set out for his aunty’s house.
His father said the school had called the family around 9.30 pm on Monday. CCTV footage showed the boy leaving with a bag around 4.30 pm.
The school said he had left by climbing over a wall, following which his family began searching for him. He then took a train to Kanpur before boarding another for Etawah, where his family found him. When they reached the school on Tuesday morning, authorities told them the boy had been accused of stealing another child’s belongings.
