A branch manager of Union Bank of India was discovered deceased in his car on Thursday night. The vehicle was located near a dhaba along the Lucknow-Varanasi highway in Jaunpur district. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Highway workers noticed a Lucknow-registered car parked on the roadside in the Baksha police station area around 10:30 pm, according to police.
Police said Srivastava had sustained a bullet injury on the left side of his chest. Baksha police station in charge Prashant Singh said the case prima facie appears to be a suicide, though all angles are being investigated. Srivastava’s wife, Rachna, told police that he had been under stress for about a week. The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and police said the exact cause and circumstances of the death will be clear after the report.
They saw a man lying unconscious inside the locked vehicle and alerted police. Police reached the spot, broke the car window and took Srivastava to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A suicide note was also recovered from the spot. The note, vehicle and other evidence have been seized for examination. Senior police officials and a forensic team inspected the scene and collected evidence from the car and the surrounding area.
The deceased was identified as Durgesh Srivastava, 40, a resident of Lucknow. He was posted as branch manager at UBI’s Sarai Padri branch in Jaunpur and was living with his family in a rented house in the Van Vihar area of the city.
