Heavy rain disrupts power supply across Lucknow, discom raced to restore supply
At the 33/11 kV Residency substation, sparking in the Kaiserbagh panel around 3.25 pm disrupted supply from Surajkund, City Station, Bahukhandi and Board of Revenue feeders. Earlier, faults were reported on the Rastogi Nagar feeder from Balaghat substation, while a wall collapse near Ahiritola damaged an 11 kV cable and snapped a pole fed from the Chowpatia substation. Water had to be pumped out from the trench at the Sector 3 powerhouse, while repair work continued on the Ravikhand and Badagaon feeders. Supply was also affected after water entered an LT pillar box near Pushpa Tower in Vrindavan, while damaged outdoor equipment and punctured disc insulators on the 33 kV Kakori line required emergency repairs. The Gomti Nagar zone reported faults at Sector 1, Sector 5 and Sugamau substations, besides outages at Sector 4, Viraj Khand, Vishwas Khand and HAL.
Several other outages were reported during the afternoon from Kumhrava, Vishwas Khand, GSI, Faizullaganj and University substations due to feeder breakdowns, flashovers, damaged cables and waterlogging. Ground staff of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited’s four distribution zones: Central, Jankipuram, Amausi and Gomti Nagar, raced against the odds and continued the restoration work through the day as faults kept emerging at different locations. Officials also attended faults at Noorbari New and Mehtabagh substations, while supply on the Bhavyapuram feeder in Rajajipuram was restored after repairs. In the Jankipuram zone, power staff attended faults on the Babapurwa feeder, while a fallen tree damaged an LT pole under the University section of the Nirala Nagar feeder. The Amausi zone faced waterlogging-related disruptions. Teams also removed fallen trees in the Banthara Gahru area. Supply interruptions were attributed to feeder faults, flashovers, tree cutting, damaged cables and rain-related breakdowns. Download the TOI App.
