Sri Krishna Janambhoomi Shahi Eidgah complex
Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday examined the status of records of various suits pending before it in the Krishna Janmbhoomi-Shahi Eidgah mosque dispute in Mathura and fixed Nov 20 as the next date of hearing. Earlier, on Aug 1, 2024, the high court had rejected applications filed by the Muslim side challenging the maintainability of the suits and held that all the petitions filed by Hindu worshippers were maintainable. In the same order, the court also ruled that the suits were not barred by the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, which prohibits changing the religious character of a place of worship as it existed on Aug 15, 1947.
However, due to lack of time, the court could review the status of only 10 of the 17 suits listed before it. During the hearing, the court found that in several cases, some defendants were yet to file their written statements. On their request, the court granted additional time and directed them to submit their responses by the next date of hearing.
