Inaugurating a charitable blood bank set up by the Indian Medical Association’s Gorakhpur unit, he said, “Like the mafia, encephalitis too has come to an end. The CM said Gorakhpur now has AIIMS and that medical colleges have become operational in districts such as Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Gonda, Ayodhya and Ambedkar Nagar. “About nine years ago, every parent in eastern UP worried about children suffering from encephalitis, but today, that concern has ended,” he said. Highlighting the transformation in eastern UP’s health sector, he said BRD Medical College, once plagued by overcrowding and inadequate facilities, had evolved into a major centre for specialised treatment, including encephalitis care. Referring to law and order, Yogi said districts in the state were once identified with notorious mafia figures and doctors often faced threats, extortion and abduction attempts. “Today, doctors, traders and citizens feel secure and the state is now identified with the goal of ‘One District, One Medical College’ rather than mafia activity,” he said. Emphasising the importance of blood donation, the chief minister said blood could not be manufactured despite advances in medical science and urged people to participate in voluntary donation drives. Praising IMA Gorakhpur for its social initiatives, Yogi said the association had set an example by establishing a charitable blood bank after earlier launching free OPD services.
Yogi recalled the situation nearly a decade ago when parents lived in fear of losing their children to the disease. He also called for greater awareness campaigns and cautioned against professional blood donors, saying they could pose health risks if left unchecked.
