She added: “Residents had hoped to persuade officials to allow more time so that the matter could be taken to the high court.
The demolition came a year after a Bajrang Dal member had raised objections to its “illegal” presence on govt land. It followed a legal battle stretching back to July 17, 2026, when the city magistrate’s court declared the mosque “an illegal encroachment on govt land” and ordered its occupants to pay “Rs 6.4 crore in compensation”. Rejecting the allegations of “procedural unfairness”, sub-divisional magistrate Subodh Kumar said, “All parties had been given a full hearing and adequate opportunity to appeal, and that the demolition followed established legal process.”
After the demolition at dawn with the help of six bulldozers, Kairana MP Iqra Hasan alleged that she was stopped from travelling to Saharanpur and that cops remained stationed outside her residence overnight. The mosque side’s appeal against that order was rejected by the district judge’s court on Friday, after both parties were heard and the evidence examined.
