Kanpur: A 13-year-old male leopard, Murad, died of cardiac arrest around midnight on Wednesday at Kanpur Zoo after developing septicaemia from wounds he repeatedly reopened during treatment.
Murad was brought to Kanpur Zoological Park from the Moradabad Forest Division on August 21, 2018. The leopard had injured himself inside his enclosure and was admitted to the zoo’s veterinary hospital, where he remained under treatment for several days. Despite medical care, he continued to reopen the wounds, leading to an infection. Tissue samples will be sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izzatnagar, Bareilly, for examination to establish the exact cause of death and confirm the infection.
