The shop belonged to Safaruddin, a resident of Mohalla Meera Darwaza in Shamsabad Nagar Panchayat. Smoke billowed from the shop and bricks dislodged in the blast were thrown some distance, triggering panic among residents. Around 3-4kg of gunpowder mixture was reportedly stored inside.
Kayamganj circle officer Ajay Verma said the the room was locked since July. Safaruddin has been supplying fireworks for wedding processions for several years and holds a licence to manufacture C hatri and A nar fireworks.
