Kanpur: Advocates in Kanpur Nagar went on a mass leave on Wednesday in compliance with a decision taken at the state-level advocates’ conference, as a part of the protest for their demands.
They also demanded a stipend for newly enrolled advocates and pension for advocates aged 70 years and above. The advocates reiterated their demands for implementation of Advocates Protection Act and establishment of a High Court bench in western Uttar Pradesh.
Later, the concluding function of Hindi Fortnight was organised at Ram Awatar Mahana Hall under the joint aegis of Hindi Vidhi Pratishthan, KBA and Lawyers Association. The event was presided over by district judge and Hindi Vidhi Pratishthan president Anmol Pal. Additional district judge Subhash Chandra Mishra and former judicial officer Suresh Chandra Savita were honoured by the two associations. The district judge also felicitated the top three winners of the essay competition organised as part of the Hindi Fortnight celebrations.
