Light drizzle in the morning gave way to dry conditions around 10 am, while the sun briefly broke through persistent cloud cover in the afternoon. Kanpur: After three days of torrential rain, Kanpur Nagar finally saw a breather on Sunday, with rainfall activity easing as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The city recorded around 38.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday. More than 240 mm of rainfall was recorded over the past three days, substantially exceeding the normal rainfall for the period. There was a marginal rise in the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees higher than Saturday’s reading. The minimum temperature remained almost unchanged at 20 degrees Celsius. The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 96%, but the cool weather prevented sultry conditions.
The weather remained pleasant and cool at several places, with cold winds adding to the relief.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast an improvement in weather conditions and a decline in rainfall activity across all six districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours, September 27–28. After record-breaking torrential rainfall in several parts of the division over the past 48 hours, meteorologists said the monsoon system was gradually weakening. Heavy rainfall is unlikely during the next 24 hours, although localised cloud cover and light showers may occur during the afternoon or evening.
S N Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said cloud movement over the next three days could bring light to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong local winds. Sunshine is also expected on Monday amid intermittent cloud movement.
