Kanpur: Judicial officers of Kanpur Nagar on Thursday visited five girls’ schools and interacted with students as part of an awareness campaign on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
DLSA full-time secretary Abhinav Tiwari said the campaign, launched on Sept 25 in compliance with the direction of the Allahabad High Court and the UP State Legal Services Authority, concluded on Thursday. Tiwari said special programmes would be organised in colleges across Kanpur Nagar district on Oct 2 as part of the campaign. The students were sensitised to the concepts of “good touch” and “bad touch” and advised to immediately inform their parents or guardians about any inappropriate behaviour rather than remain silent. The judicial officers visited Mary Convent High School, Jwala Devi Girls’ Inter College, K Kalyan Inter College, Government Girls’ Inter College (GGIC) and SN Sen Balika Vidyalaya. They interacted with adolescent girls and educated them about their legal rights and safeguards against sexual abuse. They were also briefed about the legal safeguards available under the Pocso Act to protect children from sexual offences in educational institutions and other social settings. These will include Prabhat Pheris, essay-writing competitions and other activities aimed at strengthening awareness about the POCSO Act and ensuring the success of the campaign.
