Kanpur: Police arrested a hotel security guard for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth about Rs 2 lakh from a family attending a wedding in Jajmau, Kanpur, on Tuesday. All the stolen items were recovered from his possession.
Based on the footage, police detained the guard, identified as Jagaram Singh (37), a resident of Kothra village in Sajeti police station area, for questioning. Police have recovered four rings and a pair of ear studs, worth about Rs 2 lakh.
During questioning, Singh allegedly told police that he needed money and had watched the family’s belongings including jewellery. The family returned to their hotel after the ceremony. On examining CCTV footage of the hotel, the police saw a security guard moving suspiciously around the family’s belongings and allegedly stealing the jewellery. He stole the jewellery when he got the chance.
Jajmau police station in charge Sanjay Pandey said Shah Rukh Khan , a resident of Crossing Republic in Ghaziabad , had arrived with his family on Monday to attend a wedding ceremony in Defence Colony. Singh was produced in court on Tuesday afternoon, and further legal action is underway.
Investigation Launched Following Theft of Jewelry
Khan reported the theft of four gold rings and a pair of gold ear studs after his wife and sister discovered the items missing from their belongings. Following an extensive search for the missing jewelry, Khan filed a complaint at the Jajmau police station. The police subsequently registered a case and have commenced an investigation into the incident.
