Hindu Groups Lodge Protest, Cop Suspended
Deputy commissioner of police, south, Deependra Nath Chaudhary said a dispute and assault had occurred between two groups in a slum settlement in Varun Vihar. One group alleged pressure to convert and a detailed investigation was being conducted, he said. He pacified the protesters by assuring action and said a case was registered on the victim’s complaint.
Kanpur: Police registered an FIR, detained five people and suspended a policeman after a family alleged it was assaulted for refusing to convert in Gujaini police station area of Kanpur. An inquiry is also underway against the police outpost in charge over alleged negligence. Adequate police force was deployed and the situation was normal, Chaudhary added. Rita submitted a complaint at Gujaini police outpost. She alleged that the outpost in charge threatened her with action and pressured her to remain silent instead of acting against the accused. Workers of Hindu organisations subsequently protested, demanding action against the accused and the outpost in charge. Some workers gheraoed the police station and raised slogans. Naubasta ACP Abhishek Kumar Rahul reached the spot with police personnel after receiving information about communal tension.
Pressure on Family Alleged by Neighbors in Jalaun
Sonu, a driver residing in Ramgopal Chauraha Kachchi Basti in Jalaun, has faced allegations from his wife, Rita, regarding pressure from their Muslim neighbors. Rita claims that this pressure has been ongoing, with the neighbors urging the family to convert to Islam. Sonu, Rita, and their son Vishal have lived in the area for approximately two years.
