Late Tuesday night, Affan Qureshi, a 25-year-old meat shopkeeper, was shot dead near the Jat Bazaar police outpost in Amroha. The assailants reportedly approached him from behind and fired a country-made pistol at close range before fleeing the scene. Authorities are investigating the incident, seeking leads on the perpetrators.
The incident took place around 11.30 pm on a lane adjoining the police outpost.
Police said Affan had several cases registered against him. SP Yadav said four police teams had been formed to arrest the accused. Affan had gone to Jat Bazaar with his friend Shahbaz. The two were standing near the wall of the outpost and talking when some youths arrived. One of them allegedly pressed a pistol against Affan’s head from behind and fired. Hearing the gunshot, local residents came out of their houses. Police rushed to the spot and took the critically injured man to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Prima facie, there was a dispute between the accused and the victim.
A complaint has been lodged against unidentified assailants. SP Lakhan Singh Yadav and ASP Akhilesh Bhadauria visited the district hospital and spoke to the family about possible enmity.
