Lucknow: A Sultanpur court has sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for the murder of a man, Ayodhya Bakhsh Singh, who was shot dead in 2010 during a dispute over alleged encroachment on residential land.
Life Imprisonment for Brothers in Murder Case
On Friday, District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar sentenced Girish Kumar Pandey and his brother Satish Pandey to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a combined fine of Rs 1.54 lakh on the two men.
The case dates back to July 30, 2010, when Jitendra Singh, a resident of Nohrepur-Raghunathpur village in the Munshiganj police station area of Amethi, filed a First Information Report (FIR) following the murder of his father.
Court Orders Compensation in Fatal Shooting Case
In a recent ruling, the court mandated that ₹1 lakh be paid to the family of Ayodhya Bakhsh, who was killed in a shooting incident. The prosecution presented evidence that Girish Kumar Pandey, a retired head constable, and his relatives were allegedly trying to encroach on a residential plot of land, intending to integrate it with their agricultural property. This dispute intensified when Bakhsh’s family protested against the alleged encroachment. According to court statements, Girish Pandey then fired his licensed rifle, resulting in Bakhsh’s death.
Based on Jitendra Singh’s complaint, police registered a case against Girish Pandey, his brother Satish Pandey and their relative Vineet Pandey under sections related to murder and other offences. A cross-FIR was also registered on behalf of Girish Pandey against the deceased’s sons, Jitendra and Ravindra, alleging an attempt to kill. However, the court acquitted Jitendra and Ravindra in the cross-case for lack of sufficient evidence.
After completing the investigation, police filed a charge sheet before the court.
