Lucknow: An 18-year-old girl died by suicide at her home in a village under the Badosarai police station area of Barabanki after allegedly being harassed through repeated mobile calls and threats.
The girl was found hanging inside a room of the house late at night, according to police. Barabanki SP Arpit Vijayvargiya said efforts were underway to identify the caller and verify the UPI and bank account linked to the transfer. Family members alleged the caller threatened to circulate obscene photographs of the girl and warned her of police action. Investigators are trying to determine whether the caller was a cybercriminal or someone known to her. The family informed police, who reached the spot and began preliminary proceedings. Police have seized the mobile phone and are examining call records, WhatsApp activity, and transaction details.
Family Reports Threatening Call and Financial Transaction Before Tragedy
In a troubling development, the family of a deceased girl reported significant activity on her phone prior to her death. They discovered multiple WhatsApp calls, raising concerns about her safety. Notably, her brother revealed that she had transferred Rs 15,000 through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to an account allegedly associated with an individual linked to a local Jan Seva Kendra shortly before the incident.
On September 15, the girl’s brother answered one of the incoming calls and was reportedly threatened by the caller before the call ended abruptly. This series of events has led to heightened scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding her death.
