Lucknow: Assigning a major task to public works department ahead of the festive season, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed officials to make 50,000 km of road stretch across the state free of potholes. Therefore, the condition of roads should be continuously monitored, and a survey should also be conducted of roads newly damaged due to rain.
There should be no difficulty in movement on major roads,” he said. Roads surrounding vital public nodes such as educational institutions, hospitals, major commercial markets, and govt offices should be handled on priority,” he said. “The work of making roads pothole-free should not remain limited to patchwork,” he said. Stressing that speed should not come at the expense of engineering standards, Yogi said that full attention should be paid to structural quality.
“Many people will travel during the upcoming festivals. “Public convenience must remain the absolute priority. The CM drew a clear distinction between immediate relief and long-term infrastructure health. The administration has deployed a two-phase strategy: teams should first make broken roads immediately motorable during the active monsoon, and then execute comprehensive, permanent renewals once the rainy season ends. The CM called for active action plans from the Union ministry of road transport and highways, alongside state bodies.
