Lucknow: Doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) have successfully removed a 9×8.5 cm tumour—roughly the size of a cricket ball or a small grapefruit—from the lower jaw of a three-year-old boy.

He was admitted to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) on Oct 21 after examinations revealed a large swelling on the right side of his face.

The child was initially taken for treatment after suffering a fall while playing, according to family members. The tumour was located on the right side of Krishna’s lower jaw. He was referred to higher medical centres before eventually reaching KGMU for specialised treatment. The surgery was led by Prof Hari Ram of the OMFS department, with support from Prof J D Rawat, head of the paediatric surgery department, and Prof Anand Pandey. The anaesthesia team was headed by Prof Prem Raj, assisted by Dr Dipali, Dr Anushka and Dr Angel. Following the surgery, the child was shifted to the paediatric intensive care unit, where he is being monitored under the supervision of Dr Neeraj Anand.

After detailed investigations and surgical planning, doctors removed the tumour in a procedure conducted on Monday.
