Lucknow: Eight rooms at Lucknow University ’s Chandra Shekhar Azad: The wider industry impact

Lucknow: Eight rooms at Lucknow University ’s Chandra Shekhar Azad Girls’ Hostel, which have remained unused for nearly 15 years after being left incomplete, are now set to be renovated and put to use by the university.

“The rooms were proposed during the 2010-11 academic session by the then vice-chancellor, Manoj Kumar Mishra. LU chief provost Aashees Awasthi said, “The vice-chancellor has directed that the remaining work be completed before the next academic session so that the rooms can be made available to students.

Following this, work was halted and the rooms remained incomplete, with no further construction taking place for several years,” said a senior professor at LU. After construction began, the quality of work was examined and the roof was declared unfit. The issue came into focus during an inspection conducted by vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini. The VC visited the site along with works department superintendent Prof Vineet Verma and reviewed the status of the rooms. During the inspection, officials of the works department were directed to complete the remaining work as per prescribed standards and ensure that the construction meets quality requirements.

Completion of the rooms will increase the hostel’s residential capacity from 176 to 192 students, while the number of double-occupancy rooms will rise from 86 to 94.
