Lucknow Falcons will compete in their first UPT20 League final on Sunday, facing off against Meerut Mavericks. The match is scheduled to take place at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The Falcons rebounded by winning five of their subsequent six league games, with one washout, to finish second in the standings with 13 points. They booked their place directly in the final with a convincing win over Meerut in Qualifier 1, anchored by a decisive spell of 4/10 from captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Lucknow Falcons enter the final on a seven-match unbeaten streak, marking an impressive turnaround after a difficult start to the tournament, when they lost three of their opening four matches.
The title clash pits Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Rinku Singh , two prominent faces of Indian cricket. The fixture presents a stark contrast in tournament history, with Meerut Mavericks having achieved the remarkable feat of qualifying for the final in all four seasons and seeking their second title, while Lucknow Falcons have broken through to their maiden final, aiming to lift the trophy for the first time in front of their home crowd.
Meerut Mavericks Secure Final Spot Despite Late-Season Struggles
The Meerut Mavericks solidified their dominance in the UP T20 League by finishing the regular season at the top of the points table with 15 points, thanks to an impressive run of seven consecutive victories. However, their momentum waned towards the end of the season, marked by a washout, two consecutive defeats in the league, and a loss in Qualifier 1. Despite these setbacks, the Mavericks rebounded effectively, defeating the Noida Kings by six wickets in Qualifier 2. This victory ensured their continued streak of reaching every UP T20 League final.
