Lucknow: Fifteen people were injured when an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus rammed into a stationary goods carrier on Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur on Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred near kilometre 154 between Sahelkha and Khalispur under the Dostpur police station limits. Two occupants of the goods carrier were injured and identified as Raju Harijan (20) of Lala Ka Purwa in Haliyapur, and Jai Gopal Sao (36) of Deepnagar in Bihar’s Nalanda district. They were identified as Ayush Verma (21); Anju Mishra (30); Amrish Yadav (34); Ravi Shankar Patel (35); Vishal Singh (24); Ramesh Kumar (40); Sikandar (34); Vijay Prakash Singh (32); Mohammad Adnan (28); Shahin Khatun (54); Mohammad Sadiq (60); Aman Sharma (30); and Pankaj Singh (21).

A passenger said the Magic driver had signalled vehicles coming from behind to slow down or stop, but the bus allegedly failed to brake in time and crashed into it. The bus was travelling from Lucknow to Azamgarh when it hit the rear of a small goods vehicle, locally known as Magic, which had reportedly broken down and was parked on the expressway. The Magic was carrying pomegranates. Thirteen bus passengers were also injured. Police and the Purvanchal Expressway rescue team reached the spot after being alerted and began relief operations. All the injured were taken to Community Health Centre in Dostpur. Those with serious injuries were referred to Ambedkarnagar for further care. Download the TOI App.
