Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced that his party would release its manifesto for the 2027 UP Assembly elections on Nov 26, coinciding with Constitution Day . The announcement marks an early step in the SP’s preparations for the next Assembly elections, which are due in 2027. Akhilesh had earlier indicated that the SP would prepare separate manifestos for each of UP’s 75 districts alongside its broader state-level election document.
The election schedule has not yet been announced.
In a post on X, the former UP CM described the manifesto as “Sattais Ka Sankalp: PDA Ka Prannpatra” (Resolve for 2027: PDA’s pledge) and said the party would unveil its “Jan-Man Manifesto” on what he termed a “democratic and sacred occasion”. The PDA formulation, coined by Akhilesh, stands for Pichhda (backward classes), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (minorities). It is a key component of the SP’s political outreach, aimed at bringing these social groups together under a common political platform. The proposed district-specific manifestos are intended to address local concerns and development priorities.
The SP is expected to contest the 2027 Assembly elections in alliance with the Congress against the BJP-led govt in UP. The BJP has been in power in the state since 2017, while the SP governed under Akhilesh from 2012 to 2017. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Mayawati , was in power from 2007 to 2012. The 403-member UP Assembly is expected to witness a major contest between the BJP and the SP-led opposition, with alliances and the mobilisation of different social groups likely to play an important role in the campaign. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP won 255 seats, while its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) secured 12. The SP won 111 seats, while its allies also won seats. The SP received approximately 32% of the vote in the 2022 polls, emerging as the principal opposition party in the state.
The Congress secured two seats, and the BSP one.
