Police, in a statement on the video, said, “Chowk police have been informed for investigation and necessary legal action. The youths are suspected to have entered the restricted portion of the monument, possibly to shoot reels or make videos for social media. The video, which surfaced online, shows the youths climbing over the wall despite the presence of security personnel. Their act has triggered concerns among heritage enthusiasts over the safety of the centuries-old structure and the effectiveness of security arrangements at one of Lucknow’s most recognisable landmarks. The Rumi Gate, located in the Chowk area, is among the prominent monuments of Lucknow’s heritage landscape and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Officials are yet to clarify whether any damage was caused to the structure or whether action has been initiated against those who entered the restricted area.
