Gorakhpur police announced on Saturday the arrest of a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Shubham Mishra. The suspect allegedly killed Mishra due to suspicions regarding an illicit relationship with his wife. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A case was registered at the local police station on Sept 17, stating that Shubham had been murdered by an unidentified person, according to police. To crack the case, police formed eight teams and examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras. Investigators also analysed the call detail records (CDRs) of around 300 mobile numbers and relied on manual intelligence inputs, SP South Dinesh Kumar Puri said. Acting on this suspicion, he allegedly attacked Shubham with an iron banka, inflicting fatal injuries to his head on Sept 17, he said.
“Investigation revealed that the accused suspected the deceased of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
He attacked the victim with an iron banka and killed him,” said SP South Dinesh Kumar Puri. Police recovered the murder weapon, a blood-stained vest purportedly worn by the accused during the crime, and a mobile phone from his possession. During the probe, police allegedly found that the accused, Santosh Mishra , suspected the victim of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
