Prayagraj: Markets across the city witnessed a rush of devotees on Saturday as people made last-minute purchases for Sharadiya Navratri, which begins on Sunday, Oct 11. Stay updated with the latest Prayagraj news.

“Demand for traditional offerings and puja accessories are high in demand,” said Sanjay Ojha, a shopkeeper of Preetam Nagar. Shops selling puja essentials, including coconuts, red chunaris, bangles, incense sticks and other items required for rituals, saw brisk business ahead of the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. The festive rush was visible in markets across different localities, where devotees purchased offerings and other essentials for worship during the nine days. Many people were also busy making arrangements at home to observe the festival through fasting, prayers and daily rituals. Shops selling religious items have also geared up for the festival, with devotees purchasing items required for daily worship. Restaurants and sweet shops across the city have also made arrangements to cater to people observing fasts. Prominent shrines, including Kalyani Devi temple, Alopibagh temple and Lalita Devi temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in the country, are among the major centres expected to draw devotees during Navratri. Preparations were also underway at several temples in the city, where arrangements were being given the final touches ahead of the festival. Temple authorities have focused on the upkeep of premises and arrangements for the smooth movement of devotees. Visitors are expected to follow temple guidelines and maintain discipline while offering prayers, particularly during peak hours.
