Meerut: A 42-year-old e-rickshaw driver was killed after a speeding SUV allegedly rammed his stationary vehicle from behind on the Agra-Moradabad highway in the Bilari police station area, police said on Sunday.
Mohd Nazim had stopped his e-rickshaw opposite a mosque after the rain intensified. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time. The impact threw the e-rickshaw into the air and left it badly mangled. CCTV footage of the crash later surfaced online. The SUV driver got out and, with the help of residents, rushed Nazim to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The driver later left in the SUV.
The crash occurred on Saturday near the block office at Rustam Nagar Sahaspur during heavy rain, which had left parts of the highway waterlogged.

Moradabad SP (rural) Kunwar Aakash said, “Nazim’s family has refused to lodge an FIR. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. An autopsy was conducted and his body was handed over to the family. Download the TOI App.
